What exactly do we practice?

The business case study is a higher educational format for MBA programs, which has recently developed into an independent educational product.

The number of top managers from energy companies in Ukraine who have had business education and gained experience in solving business case studies is increasing.

Moreover, we recommend using this to train company employees to make decisions and improve thinking strategies. The idea behind any case is a theory with a practical component, which means working on actual business issues during a case study with a professional facilitator.

The course structure includes:

  • case;
  • roles;
  • positions;
  • problem (task);
  • dilemmas.

Roles (descriptions for each role are developed individually) for example

Positions (informal description of the situation for participants)

Problem (task)

All roles perform the actions available to them, negotiate, exchange information and resources, and so on. At the end of each discussion, the preliminary results are summarized and the roles are given the acquired resources/information for use in the next step. Location and other factors can be crucial, and geographical and infrastructural maps of the country/region can be developed as needed.

To solve the problem, players must also face dilemmas of a specific kind: legal, regulatory, ethical, reputational, and so on.

How long is the course?

2 days of training include:

  • introductory session;
  • individual work on a case with an individual task;
  • discussions;
  • moderated negotiations;
  • networking.

Day 1 will be dedicated to the introductory part, reading the case and distribution of roles. At this stage, customers get to know each other and the further plan of the game. By the end of the day, each player must complete an individual task, read the case, fill out a list of arguments, and discuss it in a group.

Day 2 will be dedicated to practice, particularly negotiations with the facilitator. Case study will take place here. The active phase of the discussion will be around the dilemmas set by the moderator of the negotiations. Each player will have the opportunity to improve their negotiation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The day ends with a feedback session and an experience exchange.
